Cellphones 2015
« on: March 09, 2015, 03:51:47 AM »
I wondered what everyone was using these days.  Last week I upgraded to an Sony Xperia Z3 and it's pretty neat.

Nearly a 21MP camera, 4K ultra high video recording, a sound system that is so good it can crack its own screen, Snapdragon 2.5 GHz Qualcomm Quad-core processor, 5.2" Full HD screen, PS4 remote play, completely waterproof and dustproof (great for my line of work) and it even has some Sony only software that is actually useful.

I also now get extra fast 4G which equates to around 20 megabit on the move.

My, how things have changed.

iPhone 6 Plus.  I don't make many actual phone calls and the big screen is great for my needs.

Damn! that's some value right there. I hope my son doesn't get wind of it.

Some people find it more convenient than kneeling.

Ah yes, the French.

nope you can buy a replacement. On my Inew v3 the only option is a 1830 battery, although a 2300 battery is now available, hope i don’t have to buy a new back to fit the larger battery.
the 1830 lasts me a day easily so im not too bothered.

The only thing that worries me about my Z3 is that the battery is sealed in (it's waterproof so it has to be) so I can't have spares in my pocket in case I need one.  That said, it hasn't run out of power in 6 days and I can always buy a small power pack instead of replacement batteries.

iPhone users seem to live with it without complaining.

I know the 1st Gen iPhones had some battery issues but I think it was all worked out with iOS updates.  I have never had an issue with power unless I'm in a no-signal area for hours (so it constantly searches for a signal).  End of the day, it's not uncommon for me to still have 95% battery left.  I haven't charged my phone for 3 days and I still have 57%.

I made the mistake of showing my son Goldie's phone and now I'm inundated with various deals and schemes from him that would allow £107 to move in his direction.

Why do I do that?  I know I'll have to give in eventually, so why don't I just learn to keep my gob shut!

My daughter is relentlessly whining about PS4. She never stops pushing. Now the shrew brought grandma to the game. Now they're both overwhelming me with some shareholding kind of deal not even Wall Street could understand.

I think my son has paid dweez to hypnotise me.  What he said above just stops short of saying, "look into my eyes...".

Ha!

I'm a step above a tin can with an ancient Nokia flip phone that was free from AT&T.  It was an upgrade for 3G that we had to take.  No smart phones here yet.  We still manage.

At the moment I'm still doing that thing I do, whereby I leave my new tech in the box for weeks as a form of foreplay. I have taken it out 3 times since I bought it, but for now the old Samsung S3 is still commissioned.

As long as you don't do the same with yogurt...  :D
I do something similar with clothing/accesories. I need to have something in my closet that I haven't worn yet. It doesn't have to be something important but I like to know that I have something new. Little idiosyncrasy of mine. [/ot]

such a long time ago for this thread
I must be a right slapper to phone tech as i cannot even remember what i have had since the oneplus one.

HTC Desire 10 lifestyle  which was excellent but just s tad large
Now use a Honor 9 which is bloody great. Stock android (what Huwie is installed is great)
Moto E4 plus (received today)  A large 6 inch beast (50000 amp battery) which i will use for a bicycle map  pc  due to its large battery power, turned / removed nearly anything i can  so battery will last even longer. as a phone its not too bad as well

Isn't it heavy?
the phone  weighs in at  181. grams , but a lot cheaper to replace than my everyday phone + I can see the screen without have to wear glasses  ;).
At my level of cycling grams wont matter to my timings  ;D ;D

My son just bought himself a Lenovo Z5 but had to get it from Singapore.

Great phone but the Chinese had to butcher the Indian rom to get it funcional (partly), neither of which helps much in the country. There is also no alternative roms to speak of or easy methods of flashing.

Finally, the Russians came to the rescue.

I give up. I was trying to point out that phone batteries deal in milliamps, not amps.

... but you people are deliberately ignoring me.

*sulk*

I twasn't ignoring you as I quoted your joviality for posterity - as I am now.

Anywho, goldie works for Rolls Royce so if he says it's 50000 amps, it might just be...

Not rolls royce and possibly not where i work at the moment due to layoffs  :o
Sorry Christ didn't see your self destructing post, you are right it holds a 5,000mAh  battery (need new glasses again  :'( :'( ) have never been good with electrical things - why my brother in law is a God send , If I may quote your father

still excellent for long distant rides

Try XDA developers for roms and hacks for phones their great  8)

LG V30 (Since January) for myself. Flagship phone with decent reviews and I got it at a great price. Happy enough with it, camera is great, has wifi calling which I desperately needed, and I was quite impressed at the lack of pre-installed bloatware. My wife has an LG G6 and aside from installing a custom ROM, the pre-installed apps are not removable, but disabling them running in the background seemed to work.
