The Gentlemen (2020)
« on: January 11, 2020, 12:05:13 AM »
A Guy Richie movie written and directed by someone who must hate Guy Richie.

He's gone back to the well, but the well is dry. No one in this film is likable, and it meanders.

I watched this for free and want my money back.

What's worse, I have to buy a car tomorrow, and I know I'm going to bed with a headache. golly this movie.

I can't understand why the film scores so highly when most critics hate it. Is it another Shyamalan, I wonder (I actually like Shyamalan).

Normally I'd avoid Richie's movies (I actually don't like Richie) but with 7.9 on IMDB and 75% on Rotten Tomatoes, I'm tempted to break the habit.
Don't put off until tomorrow, what you can put off until the day after.

While trying to avoid spoilers, the entire movie tries to tell you how great a certain character is... and he's just a shitty criminal. Everyone acts as if this is a good thing, but the movie illustrates the opposite.

No one in this movie is remotely likable. At all.

If anything this film is more Guy R than Guy R use to be.
The  movie is all over the place as normal with back flashes

Always say, give anything a go then decide.
I did like Colin Farrel tbh

I personally believe that a "lovable rogue" is an out-and-out oxymoron and it should be never be a career decision to become a criminal.

The thing with Guy Richie is he's a wannabe London gangster so he glamorises that kind of life. It's the main reason I don't like watching his films as I have seen the destruction that life can cause both to the victim and the perpetrator - it's rarely funny. If you're going to make a film about gangsterism; make it gritty at least.
