Why aren't potato patties a thing?

(1/1)

8ullfrog:
I was just wondering why Potato sandwiches aren't a thing. It wouldn't be anything fancy, probably closest to hash brown patties.

But still, why not a sandwich? They make nasty tofu burgers, any number of bean based vegitarian assortments, why not potato?

Like, blowtorch the politician if needs be, but if a chicken patty sandwich is a legitimate option, why not a potato puck?

I'd eat that for lunch!

There's potatoes in various fried forms and there's sandwiches.

Latkes are potato patties.  There's Chinese fried potato pancakes with scallions, some recipes call for a little flour as a binder.

I think that what you want is to combine starches.  So wheat based bread with potato patties.  There's also potato based breads.  Why not consider potato bread sandwich with potato patties?

I prefer my potatoes neat.  While I love both latkes and the chinese scallion potato pancakes, I don't know that I'd need the additional bread.  But to each his own.  Would you use a condiment with that?

There was a charming Swiss movie that came out in the 1980's called "Bread and Chocolate."  Italian immigrants to Switzerland were looked down upon for eating chocolate on baguettes.  If Pain au chocolat is acceptable, it's hard to explain this condescension.

Us Brits love a chip butty. Had them last night on fish and chip night and no doubt I'll do the same tonight as chips are on the menu again!

Agreed, it could be done well.  I like an extra well done pierogi
