None of the browsers like my modem because it uses Http instead of Https.

I have to use some weird internet explorer mode to get in, and it keeps telling me to switch to edge, which flat out blocks the modem.

That has nothing to do with the site though. Just an annoying nanny feature in the browser that I neither asked for or wanted.

Windows has them too, smartscreen doesn't like "clockamp" which I've been using as an alarm clock since high school.

It's because we use Let's Encrypt which for some reason won't automagically renew.

TNG just said something or other (went on a bit and half way through I started thinking about tomato soup and missed the rest) about routing through cloudflare ... yadda, yadda, yadda, that will fix our problems. When he has a moment he said he'd sort it.

I hate cloudflare so bless'ed much. Their captcha is the worst. (hCaptcha)
I don't want to look at busses for them. Or Airplanes. I just want their human check to piss off.

TNG was explaining that cloudfare is fantastic for what it offers for free. Most of what you mention are just the particular site's DDOS and Raid protection that we'd obviously disable.

I did say to him that why didn't he post that "yadda, yadda" on here rather than me fudging it, but, there can only be 1 dweez (reliable I.T. guy) in the world.

The weird thing is they used to offer a bypass to all the rude poo, it was a cookie you downloaded from them, and it would get you through without any annoyance.

They have since discontinued said magic cookie.

I hope I'm not the only reliable IT guy. I'm busy enough as it is.

On the "Your connection isn't private" screen, there should be a link an "Advanced" button you can click. Once you do, you should see a "Continue to <website>" link that allows you to continue.

I did move past the initial page, but then forgot my p/w and got distracted in the meantime.

Google does like the scary end of the world screen stuff.

With the latest browser updates, you are generally not "allowed" to "proceed anyway"
I just use the ie mode "trick" the same way I log into my modem.
Https as default is such an arrogant move. It reminds me of my fellow tech students in high school, who would "replace" ie on their families computers with firefox, and then be pissed when they got grounded.

Making decisions for the user does not engender good will.

Back to CloudFart, they're now doing weird little loading screen tips when sites are set to "hostile" mode.
Sadly, a site I use has been set to hostile for a year, and the admin who runs it does not take requests or commentary from the users.

Not sure then. I use the latest browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox) and all 3 let me proceed. Maybe it's a limitation in a combination of the OS and browser.

Don't worry, I'm not so liberal with using the under attack mode. It's a cheat for when you're too lazy to set up some good firewall rules. I'll set it up cloudflare on here after my exams this week just so they can handle the SSL and I can forget about it for the next 15 years.

It's back.

Browser attempts to block access and has to be bypassed.

Cloudflare now handles our records and our certificate is now valid for 15 years.

If I'm still here then when we next go down, I'll consider that a major win.

This group has got me through some serious poo, If I'm here in 15 years, I'll be happy to have known you all.
I already am.

Just the silly cooking experiments have buoyed me through quite a bit.

the https is now clear on my browser.

If I'm still here then, I likely won't remember any of you.

Saving this for 2038.
