Spam getting through filters in Gmail.

(1/1)

8ullfrog:
I've recently had several spam messages get through the spam filter in gmail.

Nothing to do with the site obviously, but it is bugging me.

They're all phishing attempts of the false receipt type, I've made sure not to load the image files embedded in them as I've heard you can pick up malware that way.

First they were walmart, they've now shifted to geek squad.

I realize aside from the possibly malicious images these are the equivalent of spam phone calls, but does anyone know why these would suddenly be going to my inbox instead of going to the circular file like all the prince of nigeria mails?

smokester:
A few 419s have made it into the inbox of my pop email. I hadn't seen one in years and I actually thought they were meant to be funny.

Not seen any of that type of spam get through on my gmail account, though.

dweez:
Phishers are always changing aspects of how they craft the email to get around the spam filtering. Your best option is to mark it as junk. Eventually the spam filter should learn and start blocking it...until the phishers change things up again.

8ullfrog:
I checked my spam filter, and there were a lot of similar ones, I'm guessing they shotgun the gits to try and get one through.

6pairsofshoes:
Most of my accts are fine, but the hotmail one recently has been letting through all kinds of spam.  I do what dweez suggests and mark them as "junk" or "phishing" in hopes that will help staunch the flow.

My cell phone has been getting tons of junk calls lately even though it's registered with the "Do Not Call" list.  That's a great idea but it's been generally ineffective.
