Last night: Gnocchi di papate ai quattro formaggi. My 2nd favorite dish in the whole world.

Saffron?! Interesting. But not many spices can survive the strength of blue cheeses. My nonna used to add nutmeg so I do too sometimes. The heat must be low and the stirring should be done slowly too. I've ruined too many foundues. Well, I generally ruin them.  :D

do the 4 types of cheeses sound right? I usually make gnocchi with a red sauce. But I'm bored with everything right now.. I need new things to try.

In addition I get daily emails from allrecipes.com. And delish.com is pretty good also. One of those.. (I can't remember which one) links recipes form other sites like Martha Stewart and the Food Network. I think I'm just bored with food, maybe autumn coming will help. Plus the current price of groceries is really frustrating and constricting.

The trick with Tempura is to put your bowl of batter in another bowl of ice and leave it for 10 minutes or so, and put the heat of your oil up perhaps 15o above what it would be for prawns (or whatever).  By doing this you get the lightest and crispiest batter that is just the nuts with sushi rice and a little wasabi'd soy sauce.
Don't put off until tomorrow, what you can put off until the day after.

There is an exception to every rule, apart from this one.

I'm not very proficient in frying. I've only just recently started frying chicken... Before I've always avoided it. I would actuay sort of like a fryer.. Supposedly good fryers crisp things, but do it at a high enough temp to block the fat from seeping into whatever it is you're cooking.

The last few weeks I have bought a triple pack of margarita pizzas and an assortment of toppings.  Then in the evening we all make out own pizzas (well my son makes 2/3rds of one and my daughter 1/3) and I can't help making a few chips/fries as well.  We then watch a film of some sort with out food on our laps rather than the ritual of evening dinner around the table.

It is fast becoming my favourite food night.

Nothing.  I'm alone at home (kids and mom are far, far away) and I'm not in the mood to eat.

Unless vodka cocktails count.

I have no idea.  Probably whatever the canteen has ready.  For a moment there, I was gonna say, whatever the canteen has on file.

Times like this, I wish I lived in a proper flat with a kitchen and all.  Which is senseless because I hate cooking.
