Quick RAM question

I'm looking to add some RAM to my computer, as a cheap, easy upgrade.

Currently I have 2x 1 GB DDR2, and I'm not sure what the frequency is. Hence my question:

If I put 2 more 1 GB chips on the secondary channel, does the frequency matter? or does it have to be the same as the current modules?

JtR, it might help if you post your motherboard type as well...the frequency needs to be supported by that.  Go get Everest from Dem.  It's a system profiler and it might be able to tell you what your current ram is.

Its an ASUS P5Q Pro, and an Intel Core 2 Wolfdale. I have 2 1 GB 240-pin DDR2 modules. I just d/l'ed Everest, and I'll post the report when I get a chance to run it.

And your os is? From what I understand Vista/32 bit will only use just under 3 gigs. Anything more won't be utilized.

Actually, its XP SP3. but yea, I'm basically trying to max out my RAM, and i need to know if the Frequencies on the different channels need to match. If i dont figure it out, I'm just gonna get a whole new set of modules to get 4 GB...

If the frequencies don't match they modules will run at the lowest frequency of any of the modules.
