I have to live for 2 weeks without pasta, so there is a downside.

Isn't the Caribbean like a 3 or 4 hour flight for you?  Could you not pop round with some Lasagne?

You get the Spiny Back Lobster over there which has no pincers, but does have a huge body of meat.

Lucky I'm a pescatarian.

They have pasta in the Caribbean, so I don't see why you can't eat it there.  A box of linguini doesn't take up much space in the luggage, anyway.

I am staying in a hotel this time rather than the villa I usually stayed at, so no self-catering.  As for a restaurant that sells pasta dishes: I've yet to find one.  Rotis on the other hand... <insert a longing sigh here>

I don't think there's a patois term for al dente either.

when I am abroad I never eat Italian food, pasta epecially, better stay to the local food at least they know how to do it properly, and I enjoy to taste something new and discover new dishes, and if I think of that Spiny Back lobster.... ;)

I love past, but not all restaurants can make a decent meal. :-\
Most taste of Homepride sauce and over boiled pasta  :'(
I usually go home and think I could do better.
