What do you do when......
« on: December 03, 2009, 10:24:57 AM »
What do you do when the elastic around the waste of your favorite pair of long johns is spent? I cant survive without them! They are so cuddly and perfect. Im gonna try a belt! They literally fell to my knees when I walked from the desk to the kitchen sink. Damn shame.  :'(

Can you not repair them?  If it is only the elastic it shouldn't be too hard, and as they are not something you'd wear out (are they?..) the job doesn't have to be too tidy.
Don't put off until tomorrow, what you can put off until the day after.

There is an exception to every rule, apart from this one.

Well not to the store or anything but if you came to the door right now I wouldnt hestitate to answer it wearing them. Well.....as long as they were around my waist at the time.

And if i were to sew new elastic around them, Im sad to say, that the thermal fabric may disinigrate beneath the threading foot of the sewing machine.  :-\

maybe you should have a seamstress do it ? or you could hand sew it yourself, or you could sew like a belt around the waist or something so the pants would stay up.

*snorts* Should I quote you back when you told me to toss my jeans? :D Which I took your advice, and now have a nice new sexy buttilicious non-holey pair btw :P So, maybe you need to long johns. There are always super cute ones out this time of year. And the nicer quality ones come already feeling so soft, you wouldn't need to wear them in.

But.. you should just be able to turn the waist band down once and run new elastic through. Like.. the casing on a skirt waist.

Like my favorite pair of shoes.
I even used duct tape to hold them together.
They ended up disintegrating pretty much.
There was more tape, staples, and stitching than shoe.
It wasnt that I couldnt aford new ones, I was just being sentimental about them.
They were the ones I was wearing when Nick was born. I had them till he was eight years old.
I keep my standards low.
That way im never disapointed.

Wow......a seamstress for my long johns. Hhhhhmmmm, I will deeply contemplate the idea.

As long as things turned out in my favor, quote away!!  :D These are just so, me. But you're right. The selection would be extreme this time of the year. Maybe I can wear my old ones under my new ones for awhile till I get acclimated. ::)

My daughter did this and I ended up waiting till she went on vacation for a week and found them and tossed them. She was very sad. She still talks about those shoes and their comfort to this day.

Do it. then we'll all do it, and we'll attribute the new world wide trend to you :D I wear them under my skirts and my jeans.. so, it could work. I would have worn them under my holey jeans if it had just the knees ripped out :P

Tell you what,, get some wrestling tights ( i used to do this myself) and wear them under things.
They work pretty good for insulation. AND you can move better since they slide along your other clothes.
In fact,, im doing that right now. ( it was cold in the plant last night)

How bout weaving a draw string through the tops. Then you can just tie them around your waist.
I may not have my Cherry, but I still have the Box it came in.
