I find the Onions article ( and a couple other things) to be insulting.
Im a dyed in the wool Southerner in the US, ( ok,, northerner in the UK) and no one is like that in the south.
Were a proud people that held onto what traditions that we were allowed to keep.
You come here and i dare you to find anyone thats like what was insinuated.
Were a freindly people. And concidering the north has still forgotten us when it comes to any progress,, we make do with what we have, and were good at it.
No,, we dont have what New York has, or the California Mentality,, and to tell the truth,, we dont want it.
We prefer a simple life without the hassles of big city corruption and beurocracy.
And contrary to all belief,, im a typical Southerner,, and im VERY well educated.
I can even count to eleven without unzipping my fly!
AND I never dated a cousin ( ok,, so my ex was my third cousin by mariage, but we didnt know till were were maried for a year) and I never raised pigs ( that neighbor doesnt count, I just thought she was fat and dirty).
As for barefoot,, beibng barefoot teaches something alot of people need to learn, humility.
The Southern armies were surendered illegaly,, the general that surendered his army had no legal basis to surender the south.
And maybe we DID fire the first physical shot,, but the North shot first with thier aggresion towards a people that wanted to be free of Northern Economic Tyrany.
The Civil War is still refered to by many as the War Of Northern Aggression.
