I basically quit drinking last August because I lacked the time, but after a while it ended up turning into a personal challenge to go a year without the booze, the hooch, the goofy juice, that dastardly Demon Alcohol. Well, things line up so August 23rd is probably gonna be the day I jump back in with both feet.
I am really looking forward to celebrating my small achievement quietly, but irresponsibly, at home.

Yeah, I quit for health reasons over 10 years ago. My liver was pickled.  I really don't miss it much. Maybe a bit at wakes.

Wow, this is unusual! I mean people quit drinking because of health issues. But a personal challenge? That's interesting.

I am not someone who can have one beer then walk away, and I am fine with that, but as I get older my recovery time for binges is getting longer and I have to account for that when I start boozing. Last year at this time I couldn't afford the day to day consequences of my binges, so I took the booze out of the equation. When I first stopped, I noticed that simply watching TV or playing video games felt odd without a beer or drink right beside me and that was annoying, so I went on a mission to destroy those developed associations. I know those associations will come back eventually as I incorporate drinking back into my life, but I like knowing I kicked their asses for a year. The only thing I've found I can't do is play Mario Party sober. There is something about that game that makes it great while drunk, but boring and repetitive while sober.

It's kind like with smoking. Nicotine dependence lasts a few days. The psychological effects of quitting are way trickier.
