Ethernet cable
« on: June 15, 2010, 10:06:11 PM »
My pain in the arse Kitten Chester has chewed thru some of my ethernet wires,at lest it looks like that to my tired eyes.
The cable jacket was split some time ago.
Yet the signal appears fine,i always thought it needed all the inner wires to work.
Does anyone know about this sort of thing here?

10 and 100BASE only need 2 pairs to operate, so the other 2 pairs are 'unused'.

You can see here which wires are superfluous.
Don't put off until tomorrow, what you can put off until the day after.

There is an exception to every rule, apart from this one.

Telephone cable is the same you only need 2 of the 6 wires connected.

There used to be a wee thing you could do with the blue/white and the white/blue wires and a 9v battery to get free Sky movies and Sport. Don't know if it still works or not.  :-\
