Any Premier Pro users out there?
« on: August 24, 2012, 11:06:06 AM »
've been asked to build a machine specifically for Premier Pro and could do with some pointers in terms of hardware choices, system requirements are one thing but operational knowledge could help avoid certain pitfalls.

AFAIK working format is AVCH 1080p 60fps..

I use a Radeon Sapphire HD 6770 which was recommended for use with Premier when I bought it.  I don't really use Prem much myself as I find Vegas quicker and dirtier which is usually what I need, but one of the benefits of that card is that it has a triple monitor set up facility which makes editing multiple video tracks a lot easier to handle as you don't have to side scroll as much.

I am thinking one of the GeForce GTX xxx because of the HW acceleration. Budget for the graphics card is around £700+/-

They are serious aren't they.

I am not taking bets on what christ is going to say.

I suspect that he already knows that I told them that years ago.

Found a pretty useful article this evening...

The Quadro 6000 looks interesting, right after you've pulled yourself up off the floor.

Is it all about render speed then?  I have played about with production resolution stuff with Maya, and I had to use networked computers as I render farm just to get to get 30 seconds in a day.  I was using render layers too (shadow, motion blur etc) so the render time would have been considerably less if I'd just exported the baked movie.

Nic Pricetag, I'll take 2.

More Timeline rendering I think.. The current system is fine for DV but AVCH is no go.

So previewing in realtime and at render-time resolution won't comply.

It's funny how as tech advances, so does your requirements of it.  Time was when Polaroids were hi-tech.

Thingamebob doesn't do jobba jobber any more is about the extent of the reply when I ask, but, yeah, that would be my guestimation.

I ask that because some setups require previewing on an external monitor, and of course that would have to be in real time and at the optimum resolution. Only then can you truly see how the thing is going to render out before you do, and, not that it's my field, it might take a very long time to render only to be thrown away if something isn't quite right.

If that is the case, do you have to consider stacking the graph cards so you have one for work monitors and one for a preview monitor?

Premier Pro does not support SLI or even dual core GPU's Probably to encourage people to buy the Quadro's.

Just waiting for parts to arrive atm. :)

It seems a little irrational to me but ultimately it's not my problem, however I do get all the building fun.

That's until you get the niggling little configuration issue that just won't go away.
