Convert html file to pdf for mac
« on: December 04, 2012, 09:12:41 PM »
So far, I've been referred to Adobe, which is not apparently designed to convert entire documents.  I have an ebook in html format, I want to convert the entire thing to pdf.  Is there a way to convert the entire thing?  All I can see in AdobeAcrobatPro is how to convert a single web page.  That's not what I want to do.

Are there any other mac-based programs that can effect this simple task?  Any suggestions will be welcome.  Thanks in advance.

have you tried calibre ?

another suggestion would be copying the text and pasting in word doc  or if you have indesign you could paste the text there(format however you want) and then export it as a pdf.  Or in adobepro go to file>create pdf >from file that might work...

I looked at Calibre.  It can convert FROM pdf but not TO pdf.  I think it comes down to an issue of copyright.  Reading PDF is one thing, but creating it is another.

Why convert to PDF?

Epub is a good format, and adobe makes just the app to read it, too. And Calibre can handle converting to epub easily.

I agree, but a person's preference is their own business so I didn't bring it up.

Would an online converter not work on the file?

PDF is not listed as one of the "Output formats".  That's why I assumed Calibre can't convert TO pdf.

calibre supports the conversion of many input formats to many output formats. It can convert every input format in the following list, to every output format.

Input Formats: CBZ, CBR, CBC, CHM, DJVU, EPUB, FB2, HTML, HTMLZ, LIT, LRF, MOBI, ODT, PDF, PRC, PDB, PML, RB, RTF, SNB, TCR, TXT, TXTZ

Output Formats: AZW3, EPUB, FB2, OEB, LIT, LRF, MOBI, HTMLZ, PDB, PML, RB, PDF, RTF, SNB, TCR, TXT, TXTZ

Holy crap.  I've looked at that page maybe 10 times and I missed it each time.  I think the PDB format kept throwing me off.

Thanks mish

PDF is always a madam.  Even Calibre says converting from PDF gives mixed results.

Can you print the book?

If you can, then print to pdf.

... or am I missing something?

Best keep that in case it goes missing.
