Sorting out daughters new Lenovo Z500 laptop with Windows 8. ???
Holly moses, why ever did they release that OS.

Took me a few hours how to find the add/remove programs . Daughter took about 3 mins on a skype call with her friends  :o. Kids of today.
After a while W8 does grow on you when you realise Everythings on show, you just need to remember where / how to show it.

The boy's stuck with win8 although I had refused to let him get rid and install win7 (need that warranty to be valid... knowing him). He took dweez's advice and installed that start button thingmabob, which makes all the difference imo.

8.01 is out but as per new upgrades teething problems are reported.

Daughter loves it , it is hers so i'm leaving it.

8.1 Update 1 (8.1U1) is what you want.  They sort of bring back the Start Menu but not really so Classic Shell or some other start menu replacement is still out there if you prefer it.

Lol, nice christ.  To clarify, I mean if you're going to use Windows 8, make sure to patch it to 8.1U1.  Not only is it the latest patches and such, it has some little UI adjustments that I feel are an improvement to the stock 8.

How I long for the days when I could sit on my computer for days on end not doing very much at all.

Saying that, I also long for the days when I didn't have to search for my specs to do so.

I buy the ones I use for work from Poundland these days. They're not as good as my prescription ones but they're not far off, and I have at least 3 pairs in my toolbags so I'm never stuck. The problem is: it would be folly to use them when on a computer - that's a migraine in the making.
