RIP Dolores O'Riordan

The Cranberries lead singer, Dolores O'Riordan, died Monday in London.

Dolores was reportedly in London for a recording session. A rep for the band would only say she died "suddenly." The rep offered no further details.

The Irish band struck it big in the '90s ... when Dolores took over for their previous lead singer. Their songs "Zombie" and "Linger" were huge international hits.

Dolores released 2 solo albums while the Cranberries were on hiatus. They got back together in 2009, and had planned a tour last year, but ended up canceling when Dolores had back pain.

She split from her husband of 20 years in 2014, and had 3 children. Dolores was 46.

Zombie is a classic track and is so because of Dolores` unique singing voice that mimicked the sound of a wailing grieving woman that made it all the more poinant as the song is about senseless loss and how futile revenge is...

I spent a lot of time in the past listening to that song, trying to wrestle my own vengeful demons and apart from the works of Terry Pratchett this was one of the most influencial things that kept me sane at a time when the world seemed insane...

I know it has been said many many times when people have died in the past, so much so it has almost become a meaningless sound bite but today music really did lose a unique talent and I am left only with the possibility of a postumous thank you to Dolores O`Riordan and the Cranberries for their song "Zombie" which resonated so much with my own situation in the past...

Thank you Dolores O`Riordan and rest in peace....
