Epix - Pennyworth.
« on: July 24, 2019, 10:15:04 PM »
I'd very much like something new to watch, so I gave Pennyworth a shot.

I lasted about 20 minutes. It's boring. They interject some bloody events from Alfred's war tour, he's got some rather significant scarring (Conveniently covered by a nice suit) But, It's not compelling.

Within the first 10 we meet Thomas Wayne, and a potential love interest. Alfie has a bit of a row with his father, who wants him to enter the family business of service - He tells Alfred he could be a butler by 40.

There's definitely some set recycling from Heller's previous - Gotham, and the green screening is as annoying here as it was there. A beautiful spectacle I give zero naffs for.

We also get an overarching conspiracy, Fascists and Socialists hidden behind the curtain as it were, but once again, they don't much make us give a poo as tell us "hey, this is compelling stuff". No, no it isn't.

Thanks for the review.  I had this in a list of shows I might check out but now it seems like I shouldn't bother.

ps Glad to see you, aelthric.  Hope all is well with you and Bruna.

Ael, six and I love ripping apart crap shows, so your post was more enjoyable than the actual show for me. Dunno how she feels about it.

If you'd like another crap sandwich show, look up LA's Finest, I ducked out of the pilot shortly after Ernie Hudson showed up. Not even a Ghostbuster could raise my spirits for that waste of photons.

Supposedly it's a Bad Boys tie in, because Gabrielle Union was in the sequel. With featured appearance from Will Smith - - - 's characters watch. I laughed pretty hard at that one.

One other thing about you mentioning the park scene came to mind. This is a first date, and she goes batshit insane screaming at him. In context, it's supposed to be a part in a play she's going to be in.

Out of context, it's our Butler's Bat Clue to get the golly outta there!

I don't know how the show handles it, but in the book his family helped found Gotham. Charles Arwin Wayne Bought the land, and his son Judge Solomon Wayne is responsible for how ugly the city ended up. :P

This was established in a storyline in 1992 Detective Comics, Legends of the Dark Knight issue 27.

One interesting note, The gothic architecture of Gotham was meant to keep evil out.

On his deathbed, Solomon Wayne believed he had locked the evil in. DUN DUN DUN.

At the moment I am in Italy so Bubu says hello back, I will pass on your hello the next time I see or talk to Pat and Linda.

And Ageing Disgracefully is far more fun than than Ageing Virtuously  ;D

Amen to that.  And send my regards to Pat & Linda.  I think I tried to contact Linda via FB but didn't hear back.  I suspect she's not on there much.

Thanks.  I'd never heard of it.  I guess it's like those stars millions of light years away whose light is just reaching us now, but that ceased to exist in the meantime.  It sounds like this is one I don't have to worry about missing.

Glad I was able to steer you away.

Wish I'd dodged TITANS.
