Favorite TV quotes.

Quote
LONDO: ...My shoes are too tight.

VIR: ...Excuse me?

LONDO: Something my father said. He was... Old, very old at the time. I went into his room, and he was sitting, alone in the dark, crying. So I asked him what was wrong, and he said, "My shoes are too tight. But it doesn't matter, because I have forgotten how to dance." I never understood what that meant until now. My shoes are too tight, and I have forgotten how to dance.

Pause

VIR: ...I don't understand.

LONDO: Smiling wistfully Nor should you.

From the much loved Babylon 5.

I had this nightmare last night. I'm having to move due to circumstances, and in the dream my shoes were gone, and everyone was telling me it was my fault. I'm guessing my brain was using this quote to set it up.

If I had to think it out, I think it indicates a loss of control and joy. The light has gone out of life for Londo, and he does not want Vir to experience that.

Not TV, but my favourite screen quote is by Tuco in The Good The Bad and The Ugly:

"That's so. Even a tramp like me, no matter what happens, I know there's a brother somewhere who will never refuse me a bowl of soup."
Don't put off until tomorrow, what you can put off until the day after.

There is an exception to every rule, apart from this one.

Screen Quotes. Now that is a never ending topic.

Long Kiss Goodnight: "Yes, it was very exciting. Tomorrow we go to the zoo."

Princess Bride (Pretty much all of the movie, to be honest, but in no particular order):

"Never get involved in a land war in Asia"

"Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."

"It just so happens that your friend here is only MOSTLY dead. There's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive."

"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means." (I use this one a lot)

"Life is pain, Highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something."

"To the pain" (as opposed to "to the death")

"Death cannot stop true love. All it can do is delay it for a while."

"You rush a miracle man, you get rotten miracles."

... and many more.

Top Gun (as above):

"Where'd Who go?"

"Jester's dead"

"I feel the need ...the need for speed!"

"Take me to bed or lose me forever."

"I'm sorry. I hate it when it does that. I'm sorry. Excuse me." (after the finger)

"Negative, Ghost Rider, the pattern is full."

"No, no, no, no. There's two "Os" in Goose, boys."

"Come on, Mav, do some of that pilot poo!"

We use a lot of movie/ TV quotes in our day-to-day lives, here in Gosport. Well, in my family's bit of it, anyway.

I used to love a screen quote to bring attention to a particular point. Now I just resort to a song lyric and sing it.

My husband and I made up lyrics to the theme music for the Nightly Business Report.  We used to really enjoy singing it.  Sadly, it's no longer on the air.  There was no point to it.  We just liked singing it.

I had a roommate with an irrational hatred of the sleep train jingle that ended the nightly news here. Their slogan "we take you to a better night's sleep"

His take "We take you to a bent up night of nightmares"

It was a belly flop, but I found it endearing how purely he hated that jingle.

I know that song.  It's annoying but not enough to engender hatred.  To me, it was just channel changing time.  We bought our bed a million years ago from Mattress Discounters.   The bed is wonderful and the salesman was good at his job.  But their ads are super annoying, too.

Can you imagine being a professional singer and needing to make your living singing "mattress discounterrrrrrssss!"  How demoralizing.  I hope they get paid well for that stuff.
