A spider that likes to snack on birds.
« on: September 10, 2012, 09:19:52 PM »
Natural Museum of history is having spider exhibit until dec. and one of the spiders there is called Goliath and it eats birds. spiders creep me out but I try really hard not to kill them if I see them in the house. I think it will be fun to do with the family.

Goliath is a big boy.  Thanks for sharing that one.  I should have to think of something as interesting and put it in here ;)
I do the same with spiders in the house.  Sometimes though, they ask for a good killin... by running towards my feet.

I've never had that happen before. I've had centipedes run towards those give me the heebie jeebies to I usually kill those very quickly. I have been working on not killing them as often because I start to feel a little bad.

I remember frankcapri posting this a few years back here:

I thought that had freaked me out as much as a spider could.

I was wrong.
Don't put off until tomorrow, what you can put off until the day after.

There is an exception to every rule, apart from this one.

I've never had that happen before.
It's rare, and I bet it only happens on accident.  In other rare occasions they have fallen on me, and in the car they have fallen on me.... UG, have to kill them when they are so close it's uncomfortable.

One time, I was sitting in my friend's basement with his Pit Bull "Poppy."  I loved Poppy.  My favorite Pit ever.  So I was sitting there, and a spider fell on me from the ceiling rafters.  I jumped up scared because it startled me, the spider fell on the couch next to poppy and he ate it!  I loved that dog.
He behaved like he was attacking it when he ate it, it wasn't just for fun.

That's one talented dog.

I run into spiders all the time outside and generally leave them alone unless they're black widows, in which case, they get smashed.  Those pix of the bird eaters show really huge spiders like the creepy giant man eating ones from the old Tarzan movies.  Yuck.

My husband hates them, fears them, so in the house, they have to die.  He freaks.  We were picking berries in the fields and there were Olympic sized spiders as well as small field spiders.  Some fell in the berries, and even though I washed them, one or two might have made it into the berries that got washed and cooked and turned into this great brambleberry jam that he loved.

I began calling him "spider breath."  He didn't like it.

I'm generally not scared of spiders but when they have flagpoles instead of legs like that one... well, that's another story.
