My fave at the moment and the best show in a long time is Sons Of Anarchy.
  I've watched season one,saw the finale yesterday,and i have season two ready and waiting,there's 13 episodes,after that i've got to wait till September 2010 for season 3.
  Bummer! :(

  I was talking to my lodger Scott,and he agrees with me that it's the best TV show to hit the screens in years.
  Well acted well made,there's some known names like Ron Pearlman,Katey Sagal.

I'm watching Little Dorrit now, and it's really good. The BBC really has a knack for period dramas, don't they? Claire Foy is phenomenal btw. She should get more work.

You know since you posted that and some followed up with favorable reviews in addition to "my daughter I didnt give birth to" I watch the first season and I gotta tell you that other than that really cute guy, the son of Katey Sagal, I thought everything about it was worthless. EXCEPT: Katey Sagal. She is incredible in that role. Another case of different stroke for different folks.

Oh and I couldnt possibly narrow it down to one show. Maybe one per genre but not just one.
Comedy - Big Bang
Drama - Law and Order SVU
Sketch Comedy - SNL
This could go on for awhile..........
